AdSense in a Nutshell by Liz Canham

If you surf the internet and if you’re reading this, then you must do, you will see on the majority of websites, blocks of text with links or pictures or movie clips with the legend “Ads by Google”. These are advertisements from the Google AdSense program.

I remember when I first saw Google ads, I occasionally clicked on one that interested me, but it never occurred to me to wonder why webmasters would put them on their websites. However, when I learnt through the MPAM 20 Steps program how to monetise a website (i.e. make it make money for you), it became clear why one would want to put Adsense on one’s website??. the advertisers pay you when someone clicks on their advertisement. The amount you are paid varies depending on how much the advertiser has bid for the relevant keyword - it can be cents or it can run into tens of dollars for a single click. It’s also very dependent on the content of your site and the keywords you have used, both in your meta tags and in your text because Google use that information to provide ads which are targeted to your site. Likewise, if you decide to feature a Google search box on your site, the Adsense which appears on the search results page are also targeted to your site content.

So how do you get AdSense on your website? First you need to apply for an account. This is a simple process which involves you providing the url of your website and your personal contact details. You will also need to select whether you sign up for AdSense for Content and/or AdSense for Search - I recommend that you choose both. You will need to wait a short while for your application to be approved, but this shouldn’t be a problem as long as your website meets Google’s terms of service and has plenty of keyword-rich content. You need to have at least half a dozen pages fully populated with relevant text otherwise Google’s spiders won’t have enough to look at.

Once your application has been approved, you need to log into your AdSense account and take a look around. I recommend that you sign up for the AdSense Team emails as they contain lots of useful information about terms of service, new features and so on.

I also recommend that you check out the Optimisation Tips. These will show you the best places on your page to place your AdSense blocks. The best will be “above the fold”, in other words, in a position on your page which doesn’t involve your visitor in scrolling down. Ads which are integrated with your text will also attract more clicks than those which are placed quite separately on the page. However, you will need to test what works best for you. To help you do this, AdSense provide what they call Channels, which give you the facility to track which of your ad blocks are doing best. For example if one of your websites sells toys and another sells gifts, you could have Channels called toysright and giftstopleft signifying the site and the position on the page of the adverts. When you run reports, you will be able to see whereabouts on your page the ads attract the most clicks. Having said that, you can have three ad blocks per page plus one lot of text ads, so there’s plenty of scope.

To set up your ad code, just select AdSense Setup, then you must choose the format of your ad block; you can change the background, border, text and link colours to match your site then select your Channel and the code will be there for you to paste into your web page.

Next time, I’ll go into a little more detail about how Google provide the ads and how to place them on your pages.

Traditional Versus New Internet Marketing Strategies

The traditional marketing techniques like trade shows, seminars, email marketing, cold calling, outsourced telemarketing and advertising are getting less and less effective. People the world over are using more creative ways like caller id, spam filtering, Tivo, Sirius satellite radio, etc. to block them out. They want to isolate themselves from every kind of advertising bombardment so that they can concentrate more on their daily activities.

To get over this, marketers started using search engine marketing and this has in turn produced very significant changes on how we use the web. Marketers realized that the web is not a read-only platform and can be used for a variety of marketing purposes where anybody could publish, share content and communicate with each other.

If you look into consumers and buyers behavioral pattern during the last couple of years, you will notice that they now seek help from the search engines for most of their requirements. You will also notice that targeted search-engine advertising is far more effective than display advertising on large media sites.

These have become the main stream of cost-effective internet marketing over the last couple of years.

Do You Believe You Can Change, Or Not

Personal growth and development is an ongoing process and many people seeking to make changes in their lives know that any success comes from changing their thought. But also many find this to be not as straight forward as they thought. With the movie, ?The Secret? the Law of Attraction has been brought out and embraced by many, but the movie actually is just a basic introduction on the Law of Attraction not a full blown ‘how to’ course.

Latest Free Viral PDF Branding Software Packs More Power

Rotherham, England 23rd Feb 2009 - Dan Blackburn and Alex Jordache officially announced today the release of a new and improved version of the popular PDF branding and viral marketing software application, PDF Power Brand.

?Alex [Jordache] and I are very excited about the release of the latest version of PDF Power Brand, viral marketing and list building software?, said Blackburn. ?Alex had been working for me as a freelance coder for several years before we teamed up on this project in late 2008. He is an excellent php coder and project development manager?.

?The truth is, I was really struggling before I teamed up with Alex. Unfortunately, the app did not work well on low ram Vista systems and with more and more people wanting to use the application on Vista operating systems every day, it was becoming a serious problem. I had lost touch with the original software engineer and every engineer I hired could not fix the problems. Maybe it?s because Vista got better, or maybe it is because Alex is a genius. All I know is, we now have fully tested and working software again and I am confident that as a team we will be able to handle any future issues?.

?The app was a mess!? said Jordache, ?Rather than trying to work around all the inherent bugs, I decided to start again from scratch, the original code was C++ we started again in Delphi. Actually, most of the credit for coding the software has to go to my very capable friend Acruc. I have known Acruc for 7 years now and I knew he would be the right man for the job. Hiring Acruc gave me more time to work on all the features for members that Dan wanted to implement.

Blackburn interjects, ?Alex is an incredible php coder - I?ve always know that. Everything I asked him to make happen, he was able to do. As well as redeveloping the software in a more up to date programming language, Alex coded some highly effective viral marketing benefits into the PDF Power Brand web site and made all my ideas become real. I think the one most important aspect of bringing a software application to market is good communication between the developers and the marketers. I handle the marketing side and Alex handles the techie stuff. We make a great team!?

When asked to go into details about some of the benefits, Blackburn explained that he simply could not do so without talking to me for longer than the time we had available, and suggests that anyone who is interested in knowing more should subscribe to the PDF Power Brand blog or call him at the number given below.

The Importance of Testing Software Installers

In the early days of Windows, people would install software packages on their PC and when they wanted to remove them, it was often simply a case of deleting the folder in which the program had been installed.

Writing Articles - Why Do It?

Anyone with a business presence online wants and needs to attract visitors to their website and not just any old visitors at that. We need quality, targeted, visitors, people who are genuinely interested in what we have to offer, not just tyre-kickers. The problem is, how do we attract these quality, niche focused people in any numbers?

There are a number of methods; some of the Traffic Exchanges let surfers not only choose the category into which their website fits, but also to choose the categories that they wish to visit; online directories give the opportunity to list your website in the appropriate category which makes it easier for potential visitors to find you; meta tags in your web page code will tell search engines how to categorise your page so that people who use those search terms will be directed to your site. That only works of course if the search engine happens to index your site and there’s the rub. By far the greatest amount of traffic will come to you through the search engines but how do you make sure that your site is indexed?

Well, we’ve all heard of Search Engine Optimisation, in other words, making your website search engine friendly. Search engines send out “spiders” or “bots” to crawl websites and they are hungry for original content. If you have content on your site that doesn’t appear elsewhere, you will make the spiders very happy and they will be more likely to index your site. If your pages contain nothing but content identical to that found on other websites, they may not be indexed, in fact the spiders may not even bother to crawl them.

The way to provide those hungry spiders with original content is to write articles which are closely related to the topic of your site, your “niche”. Use keywords within your articles which reflect what you think are common search terms, which will help the spiders too. However, don’t forget that your ultimate aim is to attract human visitors so don’t overdo the keyword usage or your readers will become bored and leave your site for pastures new. Make sure, too, that the keywords you do use are relevant to the topic of your article. There’s nothing more irritating than searching for “wild flowers” and finding yourself on a web page relating to interior design.

Your articles should be a minimum of 500 words and should be informative and authoritative. In this way, your visitors will learn to respect your views or the information you provide and will be inclined to return. If you sound like you know what you’re talking about, they will also be more likely to take notice of your product recommendations and earn you some affiliate commissions.

This is just scratching the surface of the benefits of writing original content to publish on your website or in article directories, so look out for future articles which will look at planning and researching your articles, the importance of spelling and grammar and how to make the search engines notice your website.

Writing Articles - The Reasons by Liz Canham

There are many reasons why you may want to write articles but in terms of publishing for profit, there are really only two.

The first is for direct and immediate profit. In other words, you write the article and someone pays you for it. At this point, you lose all rights to what you have written, so don’t imagine that you can regurgitate even one sentence and re-use it. Of course, you still have the knowledge and are free to continue writing and publishing on the same subject. Just make sure that the content isn’t recognisable and that you don’t inadvertently use an identical complex sentence to one which was in the article that you sold.

The second reason for writing articles is to attract visitors to your website and/or to purchase your product for longer term profit. In this instance, you can’t sell your article because to need it to carry your name and your business details and web address, not somebody else’s. You retain the rights and can do what you like with your masterpiece, but you will probably choose one or several of the following.

- Publish on your own website but use your blog or newsletter to tell people where to find your article. If you “ping” your blog, certain search engines will be updated and others will detect of their own accord that your site has new, original content and will send their spiders along to index it.

- Publish in an ezine. Many ezine owners are looking for content and may agree to a swap, otherwise you may have to pay for your article to appear. However, if you choose the ezine carefully, it can be well worth the expenditure.

- Publish in an article directory. This may well lead to other websites using your work for content or distribution via RSS feeds. Each time your article appears, so will your link, attracting even more visitors to your site or product.

If you join MPAM and follow the 20 Steps course, you will learn about all of the above. The course lays out a detailed plan for the successful creation and population of a content-rich, search engine friendly website.

Whatever your reasons for writing articles and wherever they end up, before you start to scribble or tap away at the keyboard, there are a few basic things that you will need to know.

A good standard of English grammar and spelling is required. Without that, your articles will remain unread and other than on your own website, where you can do what you like, unpublished. The major article directories check spelling and grammar quite carefully and will reject out of hand, articles which are not of a sufficiently high quality.

Original, informative content is a must. It’s worth doing some research to find out what the internet population are interested in before you even start.

A well-structured, cohesive piece of writing is necessary. There’s nothing more likely to lose your readers’ attention than muddled or contradictory ramblings.

The Fine Balance of Nutrition in Athletes!

Athletes need more antioxidants to protect against the byproducts of exercise and they need more natural Cox-2 inhibitors to protect against inflammation. The following recommendations - in the form of a balanced and varied diet - ensure an adequate supply of energy, nutrition, and protective elements, and therefore represent a healthy approach to eating. The carbohydrates can supply extra energy, which is especially important in the latter stages of exercise, while protein helps to protect against muscle loss. Increased oxygen utilization during exercise can increase the production of free radicals (unstable molecules that can cause tissue damage at the cellular level), but increased food intake and supplementation with antioxidants may enhance immune-system performance. One of the nutrients most commonly associated with preventing colds is vitamin C, which has a widespread reputation as an immune system booster. Some liquid supplements contain glucosamine and chondroitin for joint repair and recovery, (soy) protein to build and maintain muscles, and antioxidants to fight free radicals. Sodium and potassium provide electrolyte replacement for post-workout recovery. The basic fuels supplying muscles are: glucose transported from the liver in the bloodstream, glycogens stored locally in muscles and free fatty acids. After all these do come from our diet.

Even with all the protective equipment worn during practices and games, football players are quite vulnerable. Consistent intake of calories, allowing for adaptations due to weather conditions, provide consistent fueling of the body, prolonging endurance, and protecting the muscle tissue from being cannibalized. If you want to be strong in the latter stages of a race, you must have consumed sufficient calories in the earlier stages of the race. As a general rule, 20 to 30 percent of the calories in a young athlete?s diet should come from fat, 50 to 65 percent from carbohydrates and 15 to 20 percent from protein. Endurance training, such as long-distance running also requires more calories from both carbs and protein, while strength training increases the body?s need for protein.

Sports nutritionists recommend that about 55 to 65 percent of calories come from carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates such as starches should make up the majority of carbohydrate fuel. Weight bearing sports, those than involve running or jumping, are at greatest risk. Meeting calorie needs can be difficult for some athletes, especially in those sports where severe weight-loss practice and restricted intakes are common. When energy intake is limited, the body uses fat and lean tissues for energy, thus resulting in loss of strength and performance. When an athlete performs his/her sporting activity, lot of fluid loss takes place, which causes dehydration and dehydration can eventually cause heat stroke.

Some strategies, such as high-protein diets or protein supplements, can cause serious problems, like kidney damage. Skipping meals, eliminating certain food groups, or going on fasts (not eating at all or eating very little) can also be harmful to kids. You should consult with a healthcare professional before starting any diet, exercise or supplementation program, before taking any medication, or if you have or suspect you might have a health problem. Information about each product is available from the labels of the products or from the manufacturer’s advertising material.

When blood glucose levels start to fall, glycogen is changed to glucose, raising blood glucose levels. Well trained athletes who eat a high-carbohydrate diet can improve glycogen stores. Typically, high glycemic index carbohydrates are preferred for their ability to raise insulin levels, thus increasing rate of nutrient storage. Recently, high molecular weight carbohydrates have come to prominence for their low osmolality, and potential for quicker, and greater glycogen restoration.

Master athletes will find the articles on nutritional needs and joint inflammation invaluable. High school and college coaches will love the update article on the female triad. Reviews and commentaries should be written in a style that sport nutrition practitioners, coaches, and athletes can easily comprehend. What is the best sports nutrition for an athlete? There is no definitive answer to this.

In fact, most athletes habitually consume more than their protein requirements. Ensuring they have access to snacks containing protein (6-12 g of essential amino acids or 10-20 g of high-biological-value protein and carbohydrate (1 g per kilogram body mass) one hour before resistance training sessions may improve muscle tissue development. Creatine has been blamed for all sorts of effects, from muscle cramps to dehydration, to increased injuries in athletes. However, these effects have been looked at extensively by researchers without a single study reporting side effects among several groups taking creatine for various medical reasons over five years. To be beneficial for strength training be sure that an athlete is consuming the proper amount of protein and carbohydrates on a daily basis. Liquid vitamins are a very efficient way to bring your body up to it’s optimum performance.

Today, more than ever, we need to take high quality nutrition vitamins. Chuck Arnone tries to research some of the options and make them available to you.

Background Checks for Certified Nursing Assistants

Criminal background checks are a requirement for employment in the health care field. It is only intelligent for health care organizations to maintain security for their patients, visitors and employees. Some health care positions may involve working with children. States regulations require hospitals and medical centers to screen the background of potential employees to ensure the safety of children as well as the general patient population. Skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities will require background checks for nursing assistants working with elderly or disabled patients, as these patients can be abused much easier than most other patients.

In addition to classroom and clinic training, CNA’s (Certified Nurse Aide’s) are required to pass a background check in order to receive their CNA Certification. Although criteria may differ from state to state, background checks are required to ensure the general safety of the patient and their belongings. As CNA’s, personnel may be given access to a patient’s personal, financial, or medical records, as well as their living environment and medications. In a background check, misdemeanors from up to 5 years previous and any previous felony record will be investigated. All convictions, whether the applicant served any jail time or not are considered.

Generally, a waiver may be granted for CNA applicants if you meet certain qualifications.
* You must have paid all your court fines and competed any probation without incident
* You must have two or more years of sobriety
* You have had only one non-violent crime in the last 5 years
* You had three or fewer convictions that occurred more that 5 years passed

A waiver may be rejected if you meet any of the following criteria:
* If you are still on parole, probation, or incarcerated
* If you were convicted of a crime against an elderly or disabled person
* If you have been convicted of two or more similar crimes within the prior 5 years
* If you have been convicted of two or more violent crimes within the prior 5 years
* If you have been convicted of any type of sexual offense or murder
* If you have been sober for less than two years

Although some convictions can be waived by appealing the state in which you are applying, many are considered to be disqualifying. Some non disqualifying convictions are:
* Prostitution
* Possession of marijuana or other controlled substances
* DUI or DWI
* Deceptive practices (Deceptive practices can be described as knowingly writing or passing checks on your personal account without sufficient funds)
Convictions that are considered to be disqualifying are:
* Possession with intent to sell controlled substances
* Unlawful use of a weapon
* Arson
* Any form of vehicular hijacking
* Manufacturing or delivering controlled substances
* Criminal neglect of a child or elderly person
* Ritualized abuse of a child
* Home invasions
* Any sexual assault or abuse
* Child endangerment
* Battery or Assault
* Kidnapping
* Tampering with food or drugs
* Stalking
* Theft
* Burglary or robbery (armed or unarmed)
* Criminal Trespassing
* Financially exploiting disabled persons or the elderly
* Any form of murder or manslaughter

CNA candidates may also be subject to a check of past employment. You should always be completely honest on your employment application even if your past is less than perfect. Be consistent and truthful with any information that you provide to a hospital or any hiring agency. These background checks are in place to protect the patient as well as potential co-workers. Questions regarding waivers and exceptions may be obtained through the state in which you are seeking certification.

Today?s background checks required for working in health care can include driving records and credit checks. The driving records search would be for serious types of moving violations. Credit checks are used to prove a pattern of responsibility regarding one’s finances. Having a large debt load, a history of bankruptcies, or even a credit report full of late payments will lead some employers to the assumption that the person applying for the nursing assistant position is at the very least irresponsible.

If you have had past problems, be upfront about it. Not all conviction will affect employment opportunities. Anyone considering a career in health care can be certain that they will need to subject themselves to a criminal background check. If you have a criminal history, you may want to consider checking with CNA programs and health care system to find out what effect your particular criminal record may have on employment.

Are You In Command of Your Life?s Priorities?

Are you focusing your time and attention to the right things? Are you placing importance on the right thoughts, feelings and behaviors?

Did you know that for most people, much of what they do in life was not consciously chosen by them? And many times we have done these things for so long they now do seem important to us, but deep down they really are not. At least not as important as what truly is deeply important. This is because doing so requires us to take command of our thinking and analyze the state of our life. But letting our minds just run things is easier, efficient and more comfortable.
